Carthay Real Estate

Carthay

The area known as Carthay actually comprises Carthay Circle, Carthay Square and South Carthay, and all of them carry cache with those who know their Los Angles history. In fact, Carthay was developed by California history-lover J. Harvey McCarthy, who named the streets after famous figures from the California Gold Rush. Keeping with this theme, the homes in the area are predominately Spanish Colonial Style. The style’s low-pitched, red tile roofs, arched porticos, and smooth stucco exteriors give the neighborhood a truly cohesive feel. And the craftsmanship of these homes is lovingly preserved thanks to the hard work of  Carthay’s tireless HPOZ Board (Historic Preservation Overlay Zone). While the historic Carthay Circle Theater (where the premiere of Gone with the Wind was held) may be gone, Carthay’s designation as an HPOZ ensures that such losses will no longer occur and makes this a neighborhood to invest in for the future.
