In 1921, A.W. Ross paid $54,000 for 18 acres of land that would eventually become Los Angeles’ famed “Miracle Mile”. The man had vision. This may explain why Miracle Mile has become home to Los Angles’ Museum Row boasting the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Petersen Automotive Museum, the A+D Museum, the Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFTA), the George C. Page Museum, and the La Brea Tar Pits. And in 2017 the neighborhood will add the Museum of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences designed by Renzo Piano. The museum will share space with new theaters in the historic Art-Deco style May Company building. A number of Art Deco buildings that helped complete Ross’ vision still grace the neighborhood’s commercial hub on Wilshire. Recently, we have been witnessing exponential growth in the area including desirable mixed-use lifestyle centers. So, with a great variety of apartments and classic single-family homes within walking distance of all these amenities, it is no wonder that Miracle Mile is still the place to be on the Westside.
